Radio networks use Arbitron RADAR® service to show the value of their audience by pairing listening estimates with commercial clearance data. Radio networks and radio syndicators use Arbitron Nationwide service to demonstrate the value of their audience on a market-by-market basis.

Local Market and Regional Qualitative Consumer and Media Usage Information in the United States

Radio stations and radio groups use Arbitron qualitative services to show the quality of their audience and get beyond selling with cost per point. Advertising agencies and marketers use Arbitron qualitative to target and reach consumers. Portable People Meter (PPM)

The Portable People Meter is a portable, cell-phone-sized device that electronically tracks exposure to radio, broadcast television and cable media as consumers wear it throughout the day. The PPM system is a unique audience measurement system that tracks what consumers listen to on the radio, and what consumers watch on broadcast TV, cable and satellite TV. It works by detecting identification codes that can be embedded in the audio portion of any transmission.

PPM technology has been adopted for use in media measurement applications in Canada, the Netherlands, Belgium, and Singapore. PPM audio encoding technology has also been licensed for radio and television audience measurement in selected countries in Europe, Asia-Pacific, the Middle East, and Africa.

Mobile Audience Services

Wireless, Internet, and software service providers; and wireless device manufacturers, media content owners, advertising agencies, and advertisers can use information derived from the proprietary Arbitron Mobile on-device meter to understand the consumer mobile experience.

The Arbitron Mobile software meter is compatible with the leading smartphones and tablets, mobile device operating systems, and wireless service provider protocols.  It can measure the many ways consumers use their mobile devices—online or offline, via built-in functions, downloaded apps, or web-based applications.

Cross-Platform Services

Arbitron cross-platform initiatives are designed to provide a more complete view of consumers’ interaction among multiple media, including television, radio, Internet, mobile, place-based, and other media. By leveraging the mobility and utility of Arbitron PPM technologies, cross-platform services can complement existing data services, offer the media greater insight into what constitutes their total audience, and help advertisers plan how to reach that audience.
